Doublemill on iOS 4

Apple's latest release of the iPhone/iPod touch operating system brings a lot of new features. There's one we use in Doublemill 1.4 quite extensively: multitasking.

From now on, you can simply check your emails while playing a local game against Gizmo and come back to it any time you want. As long as iOS 4.0 keeps your game in memory, you can continue right where you left off.

For Doublemill's multiplayer feature, there are a couple of extensive changes coming! You basically only login the first time you start the App (or restart it therefore). If you put Doublemill in the background, you will stay in the online lobby and can come back to play against your friends any time - no extra step of logging in needed!

blog_reload.jpgDoublemill's multiplayer feature relies heavily on caching, which brings you the advantage of not having to reload everything all the time and thus you have more time enjoying your games. With the new way of playing Doublemill on iOS 4.0, there's one downside though: your picture and scoring infor at the top of the online lobby won't be refreshed, since you are not logging in anymore. That's why you can now simply double tap your picture to reload your info.

The next big thing we are releasing with Doublemill 1.4 is Apple Push Notifications. We've always notified you by email once a day, if you have provided us with your email address and switched it on in the settings. From now on, you will received a Push Notification from us, every time it's your turn in one of your active games. We also add a nice badge number to the Doublemill icon, to let you know how many games are waiting for your turn.

The coolest thing about this, is that you don't have to do anything! It's switched on by default! If you don't like it, just tap no when starting Doublemill the first time or go to your Settings App and turn it off at any time. We hope you'll love it and it makes Doublemill the best Nine Men's Morris App for iPhone/iPod touch and iPad!

Highscore Feature to come in Doublemill 1.3

In March we released version 1.3.0 of Doublemill for Android with a new high-score feature. So as it happens, Doublemill for iPhone will also feature high-scores as of version 1.3.

In the course of developing the high-score for iPhone, we decided to slightly tweak the ranking system on the server. It used to be enough to simply register an account and sign in every now and then to stay in the top 50 - without ever finishing a game. Now that's rather unfair to those trying (like me), but not winning. So in order to show up in the high-score, you need to at least have one finished game, which should not be too hard.

The high-score feature and with it version 1.3 of Doublemill is going to be released the next couple of weeks.

We are at the DroidCon in Berlin

Want to get to know us in person? Have some ideas for Doublemill or just want to have a chat over some frosty beverages? Than you can meet us at the DroidCon in Berlin, Germany which will start this upcoming Wednesday.

See you there! :)

Doublemill for iPad in the Store

Apple has finally approved Doublemill for iPad! At the moment, you can only get it in the US App Store, since the iPad has not been released in any other country yet.

Doublemill for iPad is completely revise in terms the user interface. You can see that the board has been reworked for the big size screen, as well as the stones itself. As for the menu, we decided to use a new iPad UI element, which blends in nicely with the rest of the game.

The feature set of Doublemill for iPad comprises everything of Doublemill Lite version for the iPhone, except for one little additional feature: an impoved Player vs. Player mode. When you put your iPad in front of you on the table, with your opponent sitting right across you, the information for Player 1 at the top of the screen will rotate, so that your opponent can see the information. You can basically use Doublemill for iPad as your digital Nine Men's Morris board (Mühle Brett).

We'll post a video in the next couple of days with a little tutorial, until then go and get your copy of Doublemill for iPad or checkout the mulitplayer feature of the iPhone version.
